Are There Occurrent Continuants?

چکیده
Processes are occurrents that were, are, or will be happening. They endure they perdure, i.e. either "fully" present at every time happen, rather have temporal parts. According to Stout (2016), endure. His argument assumes processes may change. Then, argues that, if something changes, it endures. As I show, Stout's Argument misses its target. In particular, makes use of a notion change is intuitive but illegitimate technical question-begging.

P30: Are There Anxious Genes?
Anxiety comprises many clinical descriptions and phenotypes. A genetic predisposition to anxiety is undoubted; however, the nature and extent of that contribution is still unclear. Extensive genetic studies of the serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) transporter (5-HTT) gene have revealed how variation in gene expression can be correlated with anxiety phenotypes. Complete genome-wide linkage s...

متن کاملMaximal continuants and the Fine-Wilf theorem
The following problem was posed by C.A. Nicol: given any finite sequence of positive integers, find the permutation for which the continuant (i.e. the continued fraction denominator) having these entries is maximal, resp. minimal. The extremal arrangements are known for the regular continued fraction expansion. For the singular expansion induced by the backward shift d1/xe − 1/x the problem is ...
متن کاملThere Are No Particles, There Are Only Fields
Quantum foundations are still unsettled, with mixed effects on science and society. By now it should be possible to obtain consensus on at least one issue: Are the fundamental constituents fields or particles? As this paper shows, experiment and theory imply that unbounded fields, not bounded particles, are fundamental. This is especially clear for relativistic systems, implying that it's also ...
